Inside Our Lab
Where breakthrough devices move from concept to reality.
Our Lab at RollTech MicroSystems
At RollTech MicroSystems, our lab is designed to translate concepts into reality. Each functional area is purpose-built to handle a critical stage in the journey from idea to breakthrough device. Below you’ll find highlights of the equipment and spaces that make our work possible.
Dual Laser System
Laser Processing
Our twin high-precision laser platforms enable direct material processing, cutting, and structuring at micron scales. With digitally controlled toolpaths, we can rapidly move from design files to physical prototypes, ensuring speed and repeatability in fabrication.
Scanning Laser Microscope
Metrology
Precision demands measurement. Our scanning laser microscope provides nanoscale resolution and three-dimensional surface analysis, allowing us to validate every process step and guarantee the accuracy and quality of microfabricated structures.
Highspeed Camera
Motion Analysis
Some device functions happen in microseconds. With our high-speed imaging system, we can capture and analyze motion that is otherwise invisible to the human eye, giving us critical insights into dynamic performance. Mounted on a Nikon inspection microscope, the camera allows us to record videos of micron-sized structures within our microfabricated devices—ranging from delicate membranes to electrodes, flow paths, and beyond.
Inspection Microscopes
Quality Control & Analysis
Multiple optical microscopes throughout the lab support real-time inspection of devices under fabrication. These stations allow our team to identify fine details, confirm alignment, and maintain quality standards across every assembly.
Fume Hood
Materials Processing
Safety and precision go hand-in-hand. Our ventilated fume hood is used for controlled material processing, such as thin-film treatments, chemical etching, and surface preparation. It enables us to handle specialized materials with care and compliance.
Chemical Sink & Wet Lab
Materials Preparation
Adjacent to the hood, our wet lab area provides a dedicated space for chemical mixing, cleaning, and preparation. This capability supports our materials science work and ensures consistency from batch to batch.
Laminator
Device Sub-Assemblies
Many Roll-to-Roll MEMS devices require the careful integration of thin films and membranes. Our precision laminator ensures uniform bonding and assembly of multilayer structures, providing the foundation for complex device stacks.
Microscope Assembly Stations
Device Construction
Assembly of micro-devices requires dexterity and precision. Our microscope-equipped assembly benches allow engineers to construct and align components by hand while maintaining the micron-level accuracy essential to performance.
3D Printers
Fast Prototyping
Rapid iteration is core to innovation. With in-house 3D printing, we can quickly produce fixtures, housings, and prototype parts, reducing turnaround times and supporting agile development.
Machine Shop
Fixturing & Support
Our compact machine shop supports the fabrication of custom fixtures and hardware required for experiments and production. By controlling this capability internally, we ensure our lab is fully self-sufficient.
From Idea to Device
Short recap: Our lab integrates design, fabrication, and analysis under one roof, accelerating innovation and ensuring quality every step of the way.
